2. A 21 year old student requires a blood transfusion. The blood is delivered to the ward and the transfusion is begun 40 minutes later. Soon after the transfusion is started, the patient appeared very pale and vomited.
3. A 54 year old man presents in A&E. He has noticed himself looking slightly yellow and is feeling tired. He says he had been discharged 3 weeks previously after heart surgery.
4. A 15 year old Italian boy who receives regular blood transfusions presents to his GP with sore joints and difficulty when walking due to stiffness in his knees.
5. A 10 year old asthmatic girl is admitted to hospital after a road traffic accident. She has a large cut on her leg which is sutured and she is then given 2 units of blood. During the transfusion, she begins to feel very itchy and short of breath.
